About

Hello! My name is Cat Sommers.
I am a writer, fiction editor, and creative facilitator based in Asheville, NC.
Pronouns: she/her
My story begins in Towson, MD, where the religious private school experience both cultivated my writing skills academically and gave me a mold to rebel against. Highly sensitive, deeply introspective, and devoted to authenticity, I was proud to be a misfit. I recorded all those nonconformist ideas and heretical sentiments on pen and paper, ultimately cultivating my voice through short stories, poetry, and personal essays.
In 2012, I transplanted to Asheville, NC, where I studied Mass Communication and French at UNC Asheville — a calling to study and understand connection. This theme continued after graduation in my brief career in film and marketing. Throughout the years, I splashed around in nearly every type of creative medium, from screen acting and photography to music and martial arts, but ultimately came back to my roots as a creative writer.
Today, I am most inspired when helping others to hone, rather than smooth over, the more unconventional edges of their artistic voice. I am an Inward & Artward certified creative facilitator, a Muay Thai coach at Rogue Combat Club, and a freelance editor for indie fiction authors. A diverse artist with a well-rounded understanding of the creative process, I am uniquely positioned to help creatives of all kinds find their own ways into flow, overcome blocks with a growth mindset, and practice decolonizing their unique and individual power.
My mission is to embolden others to re-wild in the truest expression of their creative power. Together, let’s explore the creative process in ways that honor the authentic self.
To accomplish this, I offer a variety of creative services in addition to pursuing my own creative work. Find out more here:

About Small Fury
The name “Small Fury” was originally coined to christen my vivacious and quirky D&D character. Here, it refers to a more understated form of strength: like young Solveig, a strength that is feminine, sensitive, childlike, and yet intensely passionate. Small Fury is about quiet power, the pure and innocent voice within us that fights to express itself through us.
